Operator Quick Guide

This one-page guide covers the normal shift routine for floor operators. For every response type, manual checks, timing, and detailed troubleshooting, see Complete Checks In The Mobile App.

When a check has a target photo, judge the live condition against that photo. Choose Matches when it is consistent and Doesn't match when it differs; tap the photo to enlarge it. A separate evidence photo is optional unless the check requires one — evidence photos are always taken live with the camera, not chosen from your gallery.

Getting Started

Install The App

Download the Continual mobile app from the App Store or Google Play. Sign in with the credentials your manager or admin provided.

Select Your Factory

When you open the app, select the factory you are working in. If you work at a single site, this will be pre-selected automatically. Swipe down to refresh if the factory list looks out of date.

Your Shift Routine

See What Is Due

From the Home screen, the app shows you how many checks are currently due across the Lines, Groups, and machines at your factory. A number badge indicates pending checks for each machine.

Tap Complete checks to go directly to the checks queue, or navigate to the Checks tab and select a Line or Group and machine.

Checks that only another team can complete are not counted in your due totals — they appear on the asset screen under Owed by other teams, with the team that owes them.

Work Through Your Checks

  1. Select a Line or Group and machine.
  2. Tap Start.
  3. Read the instructions and reference media.
  4. Enter the observed result, add any required evidence, and submit.
  5. Continue until the machine has no due checks remaining.

Start Checks That Run On Demand

If a machine or Group asset has manually triggered checks, tap the ⋯ button on its screen and choose Trigger all checks. This makes every active check on that machine or asset due, manual checks included; tapping it again does not create duplicates.

See Manually Triggered Checks for the full workflow and limitations.

Grace Period

Each check has a time window (the grace period) in which it must be completed to count as on time. A check showing a due status is within its window. A check showing overdue has passed its window but can still be completed and recorded — it will count as late in reporting.

Skipping A Check

If a check cannot be completed right now (equipment unavailable, safety concern, etc.), tap Can't do this now and choose one of two options:

  • Skip and leave due — the check stays on your list. You move on to the next check and can come back to this one later in the shift; it remains due, and goes overdue once its window passes.
  • Skip and record as skipped — the check is recorded as skipped and comes off your list. Use this when the check will not be done in this window at all.

Checks recorded as skipped appear in the portal activity log and are counted separately from completions and misses. A check left due is not reported anywhere until it is completed or missed.

Do not skip a check just because it looks like it will fail. Submit the result and, for an out-of-target Centreline, record whether you corrected it, left it for follow-up, or believe the target should change.

After Your Checks

When all due checks for a machine are complete, the due count drops to zero. Return to the Line, Group, or machine list to see if other machines have checks due.

Pull down to refresh the screen if counts do not update after submitting.

Actions

A failing CIL check creates a defect action automatically. An out-of-target Centreline creates or updates a deviation action when you leave it for follow-up. Correcting it immediately creates no new action, while disputing the target sends a proposal to a Manager, Admin, or Owner instead.

See Deviations And Temporary Target Trials for the exact mobile choices and what happens after each one.

You can view open actions on the Actions tab. Operators cannot create manual actions — ask a Manager or Admin to raise one.

Ask The Assistant

If Assistant is enabled for your organisation, open Troubleshoot and tap Ask the Assistant. You can ask about check completion, open actions, machine performance, or an uploaded machine manual. Manual answers include page citations that open directly in the mobile PDF viewer.

Operators can use the Assistant to read information. Creating or updating a check still requires a Manager, Admin, or Owner to review the full factory, Line or Group, and machine context before approving it. The Assistant requires an internet connection.

Troubleshooting

ProblemWhat to try
