Factories, Lines, Groups, And Machines

Factory configuration defines where checks live and how results roll up.

Who Can Do This

Owners and Admins can create and edit factories, Lines, Groups, machines, and formats.

Create A Factory

  1. In the portal, go to Settings -> Factories.
  2. Select New factory. This immediately creates a factory named "New Factory" (using your browser's timezone, when recognized) and opens its Setup tab.
  3. Rename the factory and adjust the timezone from the Settings tab — see Set Factory Details below.

The Setup tab has two parallel sections: Lines for sequenced production lines, and Groups for unordered collections of machines. See Groups for a detailed comparison and examples.

Set Factory Details

A factory's name, timezone, shift configuration, default check grace period, and target action resolution time are all edited from the Settings tab (Settings -> Factories -> select the factory -> Settings), not at creation time. Set the timezone here before creating schedules or shift-based checks so due times line up correctly.

There is currently no address field in the portal for factories.

Add A Production Line

  1. Open the factory from Settings -> Factories and stay on the Setup tab.
  2. In the Lines section, choose Create Line and give it a clear, production-facing name.
  3. Add machines where checks will be performed. Drag machines to set their order in the sequence.
  4. Save the line.

Add A Group

Use a group for machines that don't flow in a sequence — a shared process (such as heating or cooling) or an arbitrary asset group.

  1. On the Setup tab, in the Groups section, choose Create Group and give it a name.
  2. Add the machines that belong to the group. Order doesn't matter, and formats and output tracking don't apply.
  3. Save the group.

Checks work the same way on group machines as on line machines. Deleting a line, group, or machine from the Setup tab archives it rather than removing it, which preserves its reporting history.

See Groups for guidance on choosing the right structure, operating checks on Group machines, and understanding which line-level features do not apply.

Delete A Factory

The Settings tab has a Danger Zone with a Delete factory action, which archives the factory along with all of its lines, machines, and configuration. This cannot be undone from the portal.

Define Formats

Formats are used for targets and for triggering checks when a format changes. They apply to production lines only — Groups do not have line formats.

  • Line formats represent the product or configuration running on a line.
  • Machine formats capture format-specific targets for centreline checks.

For active format changes during production, use Operations -> Formats. See Formats.

Shift Configuration

Factory shift configuration controls shift-start checks and shift-based reporting. Configure shifts before creating At Shift Start checks so due times align with real production shifts.

Tips

  • Set the timezone before you create schedules so due times line up with shifts.
  • Keep Line, Group, and machine names consistent with the labels on the floor.
  • Deleting a Line, Group, or machine archives it instead of removing it, so reporting history is preserved.

Expected Result

The saved factory structure matches the physical site, uses the correct timezone and shifts, sequences production-line machines correctly, and keeps unordered machines in clearly named Groups.
