Complete Checks In The Mobile App
This is the detailed procedure for Operators and supervisors completing checks on the shop floor. For a short shift reference, see the Operator Quick Guide.
Photo centreline checks
For a photo centreline, compare the displayed target photo with the machine and select Matches or Doesn't match. Tap the target photo to enlarge it. You can still attach an evidence photo when useful or required.
Before You Start
- Install the mobile app from the App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in and select the correct factory.
- Connect to Wi-Fi or mobile data. Continual requires an active connection to load due work and submit results.
Start A Check Session
- Open the mobile app and confirm you are in the correct factory.
- Tap
Complete checksfrom the Home screen or open theCheckstab. - Select a Line or Group, then select a machine.
- Tap
Startto begin the next due check, or useStart CILs/Start Centrelinesto work through just one check type.
Trigger Manual Checks
Some checks are configured as Manual — they don't run on a schedule and won't appear as due on their own. To make them due, tap the ⋯ button on the machine or asset screen and choose Trigger all checks, then confirm. This makes every active check on that machine or asset due and completable now, manual checks included.
Triggering is safe to tap more than once: checks that are already due and waiting to be completed are left as they are, so nothing is duplicated.
The trigger applies to every active check on that machine or asset. See Trigger All Checks for what gets triggered and how it is reported. See Manually Triggered Checks for configuration, reporting behaviour, limitations, and troubleshooting.
Checks Another Team Completes
Some checks can only be completed by a particular team — a lockout-requiring task that maintenance must do, for example. Those checks do not appear in your due list and are not part of your round, so you are never stopped by work you cannot do.
They still appear on the asset screen, under Owed by other teams, with the team that completes them. They count towards the line's compliance like any other check, so seeing them there tells you what is outstanding on your line and who owes it.
Complete A Check
- Review the check instructions and any reference media.
- Give the response the check asks for.
- Add observations or photo evidence if required.
- Submit to move to the next check.
What you are asked for depends on the check type, and for a Centreline on its target type. Observations and photo evidence are separate fields on every check, marked Required or Optional.
Evidence photos must be taken live with the device camera — you cannot attach an existing photo from your gallery. This is by design, so evidence always reflects the machine at the moment you completed the check.
| Check | What you see | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| CIL | The task and any reference media | Choose No defect found or Defect found |
| Centreline, number or range target | The target and a keypad, with a scale showing where your reading falls | Enter the measured value. Continual compares it with the target, and the button reads Save reading or Save deviation accordingly |
| Centreline, text target | The target condition, written out | Choose Setting is correct or Setting is deviated. There is no value to type — you are judging the condition, not measuring it |
| Centreline, photo target | The target photo, which you can tap to enlarge | Compare the machine with it and choose Matches or Doesn't match |
If A Check Changes During Your Round
The app checks whether each occurrence is still due when you reach it, periodically while it is open, and after a rejected submission.
If a newer occurrence is due, choose Load latest check. It replaces the older occurrence in the same place in your round. Review the instructions and target again and take a fresh reading; unsaved readings, notes and evidence from the older occurrence are cleared. The app does not submit them against a different occurrence automatically.
If the check is no longer available to you and there is no replacement, choose Continue round. Moving on this way does not record a completion or a skip. If the app cannot refresh the check, it keeps your input and offers Try again.
Handle An Out-Of-Target Centreline
Before a failing Centreline reading is submitted, the app asks What did you do? Your answer determines whether Continual records a correction, raises corrective work, or sends the target for review.
- I've corrected it now: It is back on target. For a number or range target, enter the value you set it back to; it must be on target. For a text target, confirm the setting was returned to the one shown. For a photo target, confirm it now matches. The deviation is still recorded, but no new action is raised.
- Someone needs to fix this: The setting is still out of target. Explain why you could not change it. Continual raises or updates a deviation action for follow-up.
- This is where it should run: The machine is running as intended and the target looks wrong. Propose the target it should be and add context. For a photo target, take or choose a photo of how it should look; the current target photo is shown for comparison. For an Operator, the reading and its evidence are sent to the proposal review queue. Managers, Admins, and Owners apply their target change immediately. This option is unavailable where no target applies to the current line format.
If the same target already has a pending proposal, your reading is added to that proposal as further evidence. See Deviations And Temporary Target Trials for the review, trial, and final-verdict workflows.
Skip A Check
If a check cannot be completed, use Can't do this now. The operator chooses between leaving the check due — it stays on their list to return to later — and recording it as skipped, which clears it from the list. Checks recorded as skipped appear in reporting as skipped; a check left due stays pending and is reported as missed if its window closes first.
When You Finish
Once there are no checks left in the set you started, Continual shows a summary of what you just did. The heading tells you how far you have got:
- Line complete — nothing is due anywhere on the line.
- Machine complete — this machine is clear, but another one on the line still has work.
- Checks complete — you finished the set you started, and this machine still has checks due.
The button follows the same logic: Next machine takes you to the next machine along the line with work outstanding, Back to machine returns you to the one you were on, and Back to home is the whole button only once the line is clear.
Underneath, the summary lists what your checks caused. Only the lines that apply are shown:
| Line | What it means |
|---|---|
| Nothing to follow up | Checks that came back clear — centreline readings on target, and CIL checks with no defect |
| Deviations found | Centreline readings that came back off target |
| Defects found | CIL checks where you reported a defect |
| Actions raised | Work now queued for someone to pick up. Tap to open your actions |
| Target changes proposed | Targets you disputed, now waiting on a manager to review |
A deviation you corrected yourself raises no action — it is recorded, and the machine is already back on target. A defect, and a deviation you left as is, each raise one action. A proposed target change raises none: the proposal itself is the open item. If the check already had an action open against it, your reading is added to that action rather than raising a second one, so it is not counted again here.
Checks you left due or recorded as skipped are listed separately, below the rest.
Time Tracking
The platform automatically records how long each check takes to complete — from when the operator taps Start to when they submit the result. No action is required; timing happens in the background.
This data is surfaced on the check definition page (median and distribution of completion times) and in the Analytics -> Insights -> Completion section of the portal, including CSV exports with time spent per instance.
After Completion
When all due checks are complete, return to the machine, Line, or Group list. Due counts update automatically.
Expected result: The due count decreases and the submitted result appears in Operations -> Checks -> Activity in the portal.
To look back at results on the floor, including their photos, open History from the Checks tab. See Check History.
Troubleshooting
- If no checks are due, confirm the correct Line or Group and machine are selected.
- If data looks stale, pull to refresh or re-open the machine screen.
- If you see an offline warning, reconnect before submitting. Do not assume an unsubmitted result has been recorded.
See Troubleshooting for additional checks or Contact Support if the issue continues.
